Stranger Portraiture

We were set with the task of going and photographing a stranger. This was a task that did worry me due to not being so confident in approaching individuals. As a result, me and a friend decided to go out together; much as the saying goes ‘ strength in numbers’.  We managed to find an individual that had (in my opinion) an aesthetic look and style which is something I would really like to capture and have if possible in tasks. Additionally, they were also a fan of photography and were willing to help us.

Below are my two favourite images I took of the subject. I believe they both look natural and fit in with the environment. The shoot was more self-directed and I allowed the subject to do what they wanted in regards to expression and posture so I could see their response. Naturally, they did a slight smile and a plain face, all of which are conventional of portraiture.

I firstly asked the subject to stand against a white wall as this is not distracting and I felt it looked clean and clear. I found the fluorescent lights in the area we were shooting were difficult as it made the images come as cold and blue in colour, however Lightroom enabled me to warm it up and erase the white light. You can also see the first image has a warmer and more orange glow due to light change in the environment.
