Lightroom Introduction and Practice

In one of our early lectures we were introduced to Lightroom. This is a software for photo editing and is more specialised for images. It has similar functions to Photoshop in the sense you can adjust the colour levels, tones, shadows and contrasts. All of these are vital for making your images looks professional. I used my images taken in my still-life workshop and experimented with the controls available in Lightroom. As a result, I finished with the below results:-

I mainly used the controls under ‘Light’ such as the exposure, highlights and whites. You can see a major difference in the images and that the second looks much more ‘upbeat’ and brighter in comparison to the other which was more dark and dull. Editing images can create completely different moods and atmospheres within. The saturated colouring also brings out the shadows and creates a bigger contrast of them.

Once more, the second, and edited image is much more saturated and brighter. The yellow backing can come across as quite artificial, perhaps being due to contrast being pulled quite high but it does look much happier than the first which still also looks quite dull and bland. This experimentation with the images really helps to understand how to use this important software and how it can really create and add something more to the images you take.
