Still Life ‘‘T H I N G S’

In this task we were asked to go out  and find still life objects and give them a new lease of life and ‘re-create’ them. These could be items founds outside or borrowed and traded from a friend. I borrowed some items from a friend and tried to make them look more interesting. For both I used a desk lamp with  adjustable brightness settings to create a studio feel.

The below are my two final images.

This is a toy car that I borrowed from a friend using a 700D DSLR Canon camera. The reason I chose this object is due to it being unique and handcrafted which gives it some added flare. The way it is constructed with different materials gives it a rugged look and can create a nice image and contrast on a blank background. I tried to capture it at an angle to practise different focus points and blending it. You can see that the frontal section and the top left are in focus in comparison to those such as start of the  bumper on the left and the first headlight.  I’m happy with how the image turned out regarding the way it had frontal parts such as the front window and the writing in white on the side in focus. This gives the eye line some detail to further notice and appreciate. I also chose this object due to it looking aesthetic and out of the ordinary. In Lightroom I furthered the retro and vintage feel it had by boosting the colouring and shadows and adding grain.

Again, these two bottle were borrowed from a friend and were shot using the same camera as above. I chose these as the objects palm sized, making them petite and different to work with and the fact I liked the style of them, especially the green bottle. The green bottle has a particularly nice shade of green that counteracts and compliments light coming through it, creating shading and tone. The black bottle also creates highlights and creates a bold shadowing on the colour. I especially liked this image due to how the black bottle is out of focus and the green bottle is the central focus. This really furthers and brings out the green colouring and fulfills my aesthetic.
