Which of the words given in the brief document have you selected, and why?
I have decided to select the word ‘migration’. I chose this due to the many different ways this can be represented. It is not limited to any one form and can have many concepts and ideologies behind. Building on this, everyone does have a different perspective of this and can be affected by it whether directly or indirectly.
What do you want to point your camera at?
In this task I want to point my camera at organic materials; in this sense I refer to fruit and vegetables. Easy to obtain and relatively affordable.
Why are you interested in this subject?
I am interested as I want to portray it in a different and unique way and seeing if individuals can draw a conclusion or ideology similar to mine from what they see.
What do you hope an audience will take from your images?
I hope they will see each object and portray it as a person and how they are all different and unique like humans and how they are all based under one category. The bigger idea behind this is for viewers to link the fruits/veg to different ethnicities and think deeper about their journeys and lives and how these are shown in the objects and which ones could be which.
What areas of research are you considering to help deepen your understanding of the subject you have chosen?
I have conspired the idea of thinking about which fruits come from where and could potentially use this to relate back to original places and countries and reside them next to a fruit from a more developed country to represent current affairs. I also consider researching migration numbers and see in this could be shown in the images. I will also indefinitely be looking at previous fruit and vegetable based work to enable me to get a better insight of how to frame them and present the final pieces.
What practitioner(s) or visual resources would you consider to have influenced you? This not have to be photographic.
While researching existing works of a similar theme I found some appealing and aesthetic artists who’s work I would like to take inspiration from. These are the below :-
- Brittany Wright
- Maciek Jasik
- Vanessa McKeown
- Arnaud Deroudilhe
What support or equipment might you need to achieve your goals?
I will definitely need a tripod to ensure I have a clear image. I may need some additional support to help me get the correct lighting to ensure my final images are the best they could be. Lastly, my images may be taken at a higher angle to get every object in the shot which may require assistance to ensure the lighting stays decent and continuous.
